Because a CBD tincture is concentrated, it’s designed to be taken in small doses. This is why tinctures come with a built-in dropper that allows users to take small, carefully measured quantities.
Since the doses are relatively small, tinctures can be administered in a variety of ways. For people looking to take their CBD with food, a dose of tincture can be mixed into a meal like soup or pasta. It can also be added easily to drinks like coffee and tea; an evening cup of chamomile paired with CBD tincture stands to be even more relaxing than usual.
Knowing how much tincture to take can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be.
Everybody is different and will require a different dose. It is helpful to keep a journal. Each morning, write down the dose you are taking and frequency. Record how you feel and rate the issues you are trying to address on a scale from 1-10. 1 being hardly notable to 10 being unbearable. Each night, tune into your body and rate your issues again. In this way you can dial into what works best for your body in a short period of time.
Keep in mind that your required dose may change over time. Consuming healthy fatty foods such as nuts, yogurt, avocado, cheese, will minimize delayed onset of desired effects.
Herbal tinctures work best when taken frequently throughout the day. They sometimes take a week or so before noticing an effect because they are working on a deep level to create a change and balance in your body. For all of all blends except Lavender Dream, we recommend starting with 30 drops (1 dropperful) 2-3 times a day. Stay at this dose for 4 or 5 days before altering. If you feel like you need a higher dose you can take two dropperfulls at a time or take one dropperful more often.
Drop = individual drops, Dropperful/1mL = filling the dropper.
- START SMALL: For new users, we recommend initially starting with half of a serving. If you feel mild effects, but not exactly what you want, try increasing to a full serving. For experienced users, we recommend starting with one serving. All users may increase dosage in increments as desired until you find the dose that feels perfect for you.
- DELAYED ONSET: Tinctures are absorbed through your digestive system and there are many factors that will affect how fast or slow the effects are felt. In general allow 30 minutes to 2 hours before you feel the full effects. Keep this in mind when choosing when to take it and when considering taking more.
- BE PATIENT: It may take several days or possibly a week before you find the dose that works best for you.
- BE CONSISTENT: Depending on your goal, the formula may work best for you if taken moderately 2-4 times a day rather than in one dose.
- YOU KNOW YOUR BODY BEST: Only you can decide the right amount for you. If you experience unpleasant effects, stop taking immediately.

CBD topicals have become highly popular because they are simple and straightforward to use. While the application method may vary slightly depending on the type of topical product you choose, most only require that you rub the product into the skin of the specific area you wish to target. Depending on the consistency of your CBD topical product, you may need to take a few extra seconds to rub it into your skin, but most are fairly quick to absorb. Typically, CBD topicals are part of a daily regimen rather than selected for one-time or irregular use.
Types of CBD Topicals
The term “CBD topicals” actually encompasses a wide range of product types, offering a variety of options to suit your lifestyle and personal preferences. There is no “best” type of CBD topical; instead, each one offers distinct characteristics that may or may not fit with your interests.
Here are a handful of the most common types of topical CBD products for sale on the market today:
- CBD CREAM
CBD creams usually have a thicker, more luxurious texture than thinner products such as lotions, which can make them ideal for certain purposes. A CBD topical cream will generally contain a higher oil content (as compared to the water contained in lotions), which is why it has a slightly heavier weight and texture.
- CBD LOTION
Lotions tend to be slightly more lightweight than creams, quickly absorbing into the skin without leaving any residue. Their thinner texture is due to a higher percentage of water, versus the increased oil found in creams and other thicker products. CBD lotions may include a variety of additional ingredients, such as natural botanicals for a fresh scent.
- CBD SALVE
Most CBD salves are packaged in solid form, contained within a small container. The thick texture of a salve is usually due to the inclusion of beeswax, in addition to natural oils (such as coconut).
